ANSWER TO 5th GRADE MATH PROBLEM

Here's the question:

There are 7 girls on a bus (only the girls, no driver, which is kinda scary).

Each girl has 7 backpacks.

In each backpack, there are 7 big cats.

For every big cat there are 7 little cats.

Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

Here's the answer:

7 girls x 7 backpacks each= 49 backpacks

49 backpacks x 7 big cats= 343 big cats

343 big cats x 7 little cats= 2401

2401 little cats + 343 big cats= 2744 cats total

2744 total cats x 4 legs each= 10976 cat legs

7 girls x 2 legs each= 14 legs

10976 cat legs + 14 girl legs= 10990 total legs

When TJ was calculating the problem he wanted to know why a girl can carry 7 heavy back packs...I had to explain that 5th grade math problems need not be practical!
